COUNSELLING

Counselling

Engaging in counselling can be akin to having another person companion you. This may be for a short and specific time in your life or may extend over a period of time. “Whatever therapy is undertaken, the approach must be able to address three dimensions, our thinking, our emotions & feelings and our sensory experiences” (Ogden, Minton and Pain, 2006).

For those who like to read a little more about our approach in therapy.

Having an education in counselling, creative arts therapy, and somatic psychotherapy in practice we straddle a diverse range of underpinning theories. These include humanistic psychology (person-centered); psychoanalytic psychology, somatic – interpersonal neurobiology, artography, and existential-phenomenological theory.

Our counselling framework is Relational and Integrative. The focus is then both relational and integrative in our approach within therapy. This has always been in a bid to be firstly human and very present to our clients and their needs and goals and secondly, we are therapists who can draw upon the knowledge and wisdom of multiple theoretical lenses and hold within the context of the therapeutic alliance. Being integrative responds to, and acknowledges the complexity and depth of being human. We, humans, engage, interact and live within an ecology of community, family, and individuality.

We offer a wide range of possible ways of working in therapy. As creative arts therapists, visual and expressive arts offer another language to engage with our clients in building trust, awareness, insight, and exploration of their lived experiences. As somatic therapists, we pay attention to and are attuned to our client’s physiology, neurobiology, emotional expressions, and presentations.
